Alex Honnold
Climber

“Fear is an interesting counselor.”
Alex Honnold, The New York Times
The only person to free solo Yosemite’s 3,000-foot rock monolith, El Capitan – without a rope and climbing alone – Alex Honnold has achieved what few others could ever dream of. More people will walk on the moon than will accomplish what Alex has done. His extraordinary skill and unparalleled focus have made him a boundless figure in climbing, inspiring millions across the globe.
Alex is one of the hardest-working and most accomplished climbers in history. While his groundbreaking ascent of El Cap, dramatically captured in the Oscar-winning film Free Solo, brought him widespread recognition, it represents just one of his many remarkable triumphs. His singular resume includes speed records on The Nose, the famous 24-hour “Triple Solo” of Mt. Watkins, and pioneering expeditions to some of the world’s most remote locations.
Alex’s feats have redefined the boundaries of climbing and captivated the world’s imagination, earning him features on 60 Minutes, The New York Times, and the cover of National Geographic.
In 2012, Alex founded the Honnold Foundation, an environmental non-profit that provides grants to organizations advancing solar energy access all over the world. To date, the foundation has supported more than 200,000 beneficiaries across 245 communities in 25 different countries, all united by a common vision – a better, brighter world for all of us.
He hosts both the Climbing Gold Podcast, which explores the trailblazers of climbing culture, and the Planet Visionaries Podcast, which highlights innovators tackling some of the world’s toughest environmental challenges. Additionally, Alex has contributed his expertise to various environmentally focused documentaries and TV projects, helping filmmakers reach and reveal the planet’s most extraordinary places in ways rarely seen by the public.
There is truly no one like Alex Honnold. His deep passion for the planet and ability to approach the impossible with abandon lead to epic accomplishments. Whether free soloing El Cap or spotting a fellow climber, Alex is always all in.
"Alex Honnold’s free solo achievements are a breathtaking testament to human endurance, fearlessness, and focus.”
