Two for the Road
Celebrating Nature’s Creativity + Two for the Road | 48 Hours in Nicaragua
When the Yurman family first sought out Jimmy Chin to explore a partnership, both parties knew they shared a commitment to craft and an appreciation for aesthetics. The jewelry makers and the award winning photographer, filmmaker and climber soon realized they had more in common than expected, and set about exploring those passions across two film projects, with Jimmy serving as creative director and photographer.
The first collaboration in 2019, “Two for the Road”, is a celebration of mentorship and the camaraderie that's forged in the outdoors. Jimmy's paired with longtime friend and fellow photographer Jeff Johnson, both taking a break from hectic schedules to surf the waves of Nicaragua. The resulting film, photo portfolio and Q&A, presented within a custom microsite that displays several featured pieces, explore how two peers can still learn from one another, and how important it is to submit to the outdoors when trying to capture it's beauty.
Later that year Jimmy and world-class climber Sam Elias headed to Utah to climb stunning dessert spires. “Celebrating Nature's Artistry” recognizes the importance of elegant, streamlined design. As we Sam scale the rock face employing traditional climbing techniques, Jimmy discusses how he's always been drawn to simplicity, both in the art that the crafts and the gear he takes into the mountains which can mean the difference between life and death.
Taken together, the two projects celebrated the motivations of the jewelry maker in dramatic fashion across a variety of customer touchpoints, while subtly incorporating select pieces in a tactical manner.
